July gambling revenues decrease for Atlantic City
The Division of Gaming Enforcement of New Jersey has released state gambling figures for the month of July, showing that Atlantic City has seen a slight decline in revenues based on year-on-year comparisons. July 2017 produced 2.7% less than July 2016. Overall, casino gambling revenues for Atlantic City came in at $267.8 million which is less than the $275.2 million earned the same month last year. These totals include online gaming revenues.
When comparing 2016 and 2017, it must be considered that the Trump Taj Mahal was open this time last year and no longer is. If you remove the Taj from the gaming totals and look at the seven casinos that remain, you will see that overall gambling revenues, with online gaming, are up by 3.9%.
According to the Press of Atlantic City, the Director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, David Rebuck, stated that while there are fluctuations in the monthly revenue reports, it is encouraging to see that that current operators’ casino win figures are up almost 10% for the year as it stands. This shows continued stabilization in the industry.
Online gambling revenues continue to be on the rise and certainly help to push up the overall gambling revenue total. In July, online gaming brought in $18.5 million which is an 18.5% increase from last July, when $17.3 million was earned. Since being approved in late 2013, online gambling has produced over $619 million in revenues for the state.
